Chemical Peels

Chemical peel is a procedure that uses chemical solution to make your skin smoother.

It is a controlled procedure that damages the skin where the chemical solution is applied. And then the damage is naturally healed by the skin.

There are different kinds of chemical peels:

Chemical Peels1. Superficial peels

Superficial peels use the weakest chemical solution. They only damage the topmost layer of the skin and heals quickly that is why most of the people who undergo superficial peels can return to their normal daily life. Superficial peels are applied to people with acne scars, fine wrinkles, some pigments in the skin and mild sun burn.

2. Medium peels

Medium peels are slightly painful during and after the procedure since it results to a second-degree burn. It heals a little bit longer than the superficial peel, usually 5 to 7 days and there may be some inflammation on the skin. Medium peels are used to improve those who have long-term sun damage, moderate wrinkles, and skin pigmentation.

3. Deep peels

Deep peels are used to help those who have severe wrinkles, abrasions on the skin as well as those who have long-term sun damage. This procedure also results to a more profound second-degree burn where the skin can take up to 2 months to heal. These procedures are only applied on the face and are not advised to those who have darker skin types because of the bleaching of the skin.

Of course, all kinds of procedures have risks. There are those people who undergo chemical peels and have great results but there are also those who don’t. The side effects may include: allergic reaction to the chemical solution, also the treated skin may be a bit darker or lighter than others, severe redness of the skin, and scarring.
