Trick or Treat! Costumes, Makeup, Parties and Lollies often lead to Halloween Breakouts!

Trick or Treat, 7 Ways to Minimise Halloween BreakoutsTrick or treat! The time of the year has come when everyone is into costumes, makeups and dressing up and getting ready for upcoming Halloween parties to attend to hoping to win the best makeup or costume.

However, with all the excitement going on, keep in mind that Halloween makeup is way different than your everyday makeup. Halloween makeup is often thicker and heavier, consisting of different chemicals, oils, waxes, fragrances – even those that are said to be hypoallergenic.

Here are some simple Halloween Skin Care Tips to Reduce The Halloween Breakouts:

  1. A good rule of the thumb when choosing your Halloween makeup, is to avoid oil based makeup, especially if you have oily or acne prone skin.
  2. Also avoid using pore-clogging costumes like rubber masks as it can trigger breakouts. However, if you can’t stay away from these kinds of makeups and costumes, make sure that you wash your face and make sure all the makeup is removed before going to sleep.
  3. Avoid eating too many lollies. We all know that eating too many lollies can trigger skin inflammation resulting to acne breakouts and blemishes, especially over Halloween where there is a large selection available!
  4. If you have a pimple or an acne breakout before the Halloween party, apply an acne treatment gel before putting on makeup. This will help protect your skin from the makeup and costume.
  5. Always read labels to prevent skin irritation and allergic reaction. Products like glitters, face or body paints have ingredients that can cause allergic reaction.
  6. Also, if you have leftover body paint from a previous dress-up event that you are going to reuse, make sure to check the expiration date, odor and the consistency of the product. You don’t want to use a product that has “expired” on your skin. Rashes and skin irritation can be triggered by products that have gone past their “used by” date.
  7. It’s also a good practice to pamper your face the day after your Halloween Party. Exfoliating and applying an anti-inflammatory facial mask will help to make sure that there is no makeup residue left on your skin.
