The Oil Cleansing Method

What is the Oil Cleansing Method?

The Oil Cleansing MethodThe Oil Cleansing Method is one of the trending cleansing methods that you can add in your skin care routine today. But what is it all about and how does it work?

The Oil Cleansing Method or OCM applies this chemistry principle “like dissolves like.” So based from the name itself, OCM makes use of natural oils to dissolve oil itself. The combination of natural oils soften and dissolve oil and dirt in the skin pores as well as remove the unwanted dead skin cells which are the common causes of acne breakouts. The goal of this method is to cleanse the skin and to balance the skin’s natural oil production.

How does it work?

This simple cleansing method has key elements for it to work. You will need the following:

1. Natural Oils. There are two most commonly used oils in OCM, Castor oil and Olive oil. But you can still use other natural oils like coconut oil, sunflower oil, hazelnut oil just to name a few. In the traditional Oil Cleansing Method, castor oil is highly recommended because of its cleansing properties. It is a natural astringent that is why it is good to use if you have oily skin.

Here are some suggested oil ratio and combination for different skin types:

• For Oily Skin: Try 30% of Castor oil and 70% of Sunflower oil or your preferred natural oil.
• For Combination Skin: Try 20% of Castor oil and 80% Sunflower oil or other oils you prefer.
• For Dry Skin: Try 10% Castor oil and 90% Sunflower oil or your preferred natural oil.

You can change the quantity of the oils to meet your skin needs. If you feel your skin becomes too dry, you can lessen the Castor oil percentage and replace it with the Sunflower oil.

2. A clean, soft washcloth

3. Hot, running water

Once you have the things that you need (preferred oil blend, washcloth and hot running water) you can follow the simple steps below:

1. Pour or scoop a small amount of the oil blend you made (about a quarter size will suffice) on your palm. Gently massage the skin of your face for about a minute or 2.

2. Wet the soft washcloth with the hot water (make sure that it’s completely soaked) and wring it out to remove the extra water. Spread the washcloth and place it over your face until it cools then wipe your face gently.

3. Rinse the washcloth properly then repeat step 2 for one to two times.

Please make sure that you are comfortable with the hot water that you use to avoid skin damage especially to those who have sensitive skin.

You can use the Oil Cleansing Method regularly or as frequent as you like especially if you apply make-up. It is advisable to use it during night time before going to sleep.

You can also use AQI Clear Acne Value Pack to control and minimise acne breakouts.
