The Importance of Cleaning your Makeup Brushes

How important is cleaning your makeup brushes?

Your makeup brushes touch your face and skin almost every day. Everything that has contact on your skin can have an impact on your skin’s health. It’s not very common that those who wear makeup don’t clean their makeup brushes. Who has the time? But it’s vital to make time to clean your makeup brushes. Even if you have a great skin care routine that you do every day, not cleaning your brushes will undo everything.

Reasons for Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes

The Importance of Cleaning your Makeup Brushes• Dirt and Old makeup

Makeup brushes accumulate dirt and old makeup. Not cleaning your makeup brushes will definitely transfer dirt to your skin and face. It’s even more difficult to highlight your best features as blending the right colors can be hard because of the old makeup still attached on the brushes.

• Bacteria causing skin problems

Aside from accumulated dirt and old makeup, bacteria can also grow in the brushes. This can cause multiple skin problems and irritations like acne breakouts and even dermatitis. Brushes can also accumulate dead skin cells. Instead of helping the skin shed unwanted dead skin cells, you tend to bring it back and can cause clogged pores leading to breakouts.

• If you share your makeup brushes

In the first place, sharing makeup brushes is a big no-no! But sometimes, this can’t be helped. Even if you are sure that your face is clean, using unwashed brushes that has been used by others can lead to complications like cold sores (herpes) and pink eye.

• Makeup brushes are investments

Buying quality brushes are no joke; they are really expensive. Giving them the proper care will not only help your skin be free from breakouts and irritation but you will also get your money’s worth.

There are multiple and easy ways you can clean your makeup brushes. You can even buy makeup brush cleaners. However, most store bought brush cleaners have alcohol content to help dry the brushes faster. If you have sensitive skin, this is not recommended. There are still other ways to clean your makeup brushes by using common materials found in your home.

It’s recommended to find time cleaning your makeup brushes once a week if you use them regularly or fortnightly will do.
