Purpose of BB Cream

What are BB Creams?

BB cream is short for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm Cream. It was formulated decades ago by Dr. Christine Schrammek a German dermatologist and was originally made to hide redness and scars as well as help heal the skin after a peeling treatment. It was then introduced in South Korea where its popularity bloomed.

What is the purpose of BB Cream?

This multifunctional cream has the following components:

  • Purpose of BB CreamIt has moisturising properties like glycerin and hyaluronic acid that helps your skin to be moisturised.
  • It has a broad-spectrum SPF that protects the skin from the sun.
  • It has antioxidants like vitamins C, A and E that serve as anti-aging properties as well as fight off free radicals.
  • It also has ingredients like arbutin and licorice that help balance the skin tone.
  • It also can smoothen the skin like how a foundation does because of its silicone based ingredients.

With all these components mentioned above, a BB cream’s main purpose is to be able to moisturise, even out the skin tone and cover up blemishes as well as protect your skin from the sun. It can be compared to a tinted moisturiser where it covers up blemishes as well. But the difference between the two is a BB cream has more coverage and also has SPF while a tinted moisturiser doesn’t.

The good thing about BB cream is it offers different skin finish variations like matte, dewy, luminious and so on. It is also available for different skin tones so that it can work for anyone. You can also mix it with a foundation to perfectly match your skin tone and attain the perfect coverage.

A BB cream is a very useful skin care product especially to those who are always in a hurry. Just with a pea-sized amount, it can cover blemishes and have a good skin finish for a normal day. However, a BB cream is not a substitute for your essential skin care products like moisturisers and sunscreen. It is very handy but since it is a multifunctional cream, it doesn’t give the proper nutrients that you get from your important skin care products.

Make sure that you still do your skin care routine, wash, tone and moisturise!

A wonderful example of a daily moisturiser that can help nourish your sensitive skin is the AQI Daily Facial Moisturiser with SPF.
