Cleaning your makeup brushes

There are several ways on how to clean your brushes.

1. Cleaning your makeup brushes with Bar Soap

When cleaning your makeup brushes with bar soap, make sure that you use a fragrant free gentle soap.

  • Wet the bar soap with lukewarm water.
  • Completely wet the brush with lukewarm water and be careful not to get water inside the brush barrel as it will cause the bristles to loosen and fall off.
  • Gently swirl the brush on the bar soap until it lathers completely and the soap get evenly distributed throughout the bristles. Avoid the soap getting in the brush barrel as well as it could loosen the bristles of the brush.
  • Rinse the makeup brush with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water as it can damage the brush as well.
  • Carefully squeeze out the excess water from the brush and lay it flat on a clean towel to air dry. Usually it takes overnight (6 to 8 hours) for the brushes to completely dry.

2. Cleaning your makeup brushes with gentle shampoo or liquid detergent

  • Dampen the clean sponge with lukewarm water.
  • Put a small amount of liquid detergent or gentle shampoo whichever you prefer.
  • Completely wet your brush with lukewarm water as well and gently swirl the brush on the sponge until it lathers all throughout the bristles.
  • Rinse the brush very well with lukewarm water. Make sure it doesn’t feel slimy or slippery. If it does, you need to continue rinsing the brush until it feels clean.
  • Again, dry your brush by removing the excess water and lay it flat in a clean towel to air dry completely.

3. Cleaning your makeup brushes with Olive Oil

Cleaning your brushes with olive oil is normally done with brushes that are heavily stuffed with makeup like lip brushes, eyeliner brushes, etc. If you feel the brushes are so stiff, washing them with olive oils is good to moisturise the brush and restore their softness.

  • Get a clean sponge and pour a tablespoon of olive oil on the sponge.
  • Gently swirl the brush on the sponge until there are no more traces of makeup residue in the sponge. You can add more olive oil if needed.
  • And again, rinse the brush very well with warm water. Warm water will remove the olive oil in the brush. Rinse until it feels clean.
  • Dry your brush completely the same way as the other two methods by laying it flat in a clean towel to air dry.
