Facial Exfoliation Benefits

What are the benefits of exfoliating your face?

Washing, toning and moisturising your skin daily is very good for your skin but sometimes it’s not enough. One process that could help your skin look fresher and healthier is exfoliation. By exfoliating your face regularly, it will help your skin become soft and healthier looking.

Facial Exfoliation BenefitsExfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells on the top most surface of the skin. It also removes accumulated dirt and clear up clogged pores. There are two ways to exfoliate your skin. The first is by using facial scrubs, gentle washcloth, or exfoliating brush. The other is by using chemical exfoliators or chemical peels. A lot of chemical exfoliants in body and facial cleansers use salicylic acid or glycolic acid. And there are also chemical peels that are available over the counter. Just make sure to follow instructions and to not overdo it. It’s still better to consult a specialist if you prefer using chemical peels.

 Benefits of facial exfoliation

  • Helps clear out Acne breakouts
Dead skin cells and excess oil are primary causes of blackheads and acne breakouts. The dead skin cells have a hard time shedding off as they tend to stick with the excess oil thus clogging the pores of the face. Exfoliating around 2 to 3 times a week can help acne prone skin clear up the clogged pores preventing blackheads and acne to develop.
  • Minimises large pores
Sometimes washing your skin is simply not enough to remove dirt from your face. Accumulated dirt with dead skin cells will tend to clog your pores thus resulting to large pores. Aside from removing dead skin cells, exfoliation will also remove the accumulated dirt that causes clogged pores. Regular exfoliation will definitely help your skin reduce the appearance of large pores.
  • Enhance the texture of your skin
Exfoliating your skin will shed the dead skin cells quickly giving way to the new and healthy cells to resurface. Your dry and dull skin will then become smooth and healthier looking skin.
  • Boosts absorption and reduces fine lines and early signs of aging
When your skin is exfoliated, it helps avoid dead skin cells and dirt to accumulate thus preparing your skin to absorb nutrients properly from creams, serums and moisturisers. This will minimise appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and allows your skin to look vibrant, fresh and healthier. Exfoliation also assists in lightening age spots and blemishes resulting to a more even skin tone and a younger looking skin.

Exfoliation will definitely benefit your skin. However, how regular will you exfoliate your skin will depend on your skin type. You can learn more about this with our article on How Often Should You Exfoliate?
