Skin Problems

Our Skin… our most neglected organ?

Our skin is the largest and in some instances the most neglected organ of the body when it comes to skin problems that may occur.

Skin Problems IntroYet our skin has a vital role to play in our well being. It serves as a protection from different kinds of micro-organisms that can harm us.

Our skin even serves as a temperature regulator, where we sweat if the weather is too hot. And of course, our skin has a big role in our sense of touch.

Keeping this in mind, there are many skin problems that could occur that we need to be aware of.

Some of the most common skin problems are:

  • Warts; A non-cancerous skin growth that appears on your skin. They are contagious and can be spread by touching the wart or anything that touched the wart like towels. Warts feel rough and round. Usually, they are brown in color.
  • Contact Dermatitis; A great example of contact dermatitis is when you caught a rash from a poison ivy. The basic symptoms of contact dermatitis include itchy red rash, swelling and burning sensation and blisters.
  • Hives; Urticaria or most commonly known as hives can be triggered by specific food or medication. It is a skin reaction where you’ll see welts and is very itchy.
  • Eczema; or Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that has no cure. It often shows in children but it can also occur at any age. Symptoms of atopic dermatitis are: cracked, scaly, dry skin, itchy red patches on the hands, elbows, ankles, wrist and neck. Since there is no known cure, eczema can be managed to relieve itchiness and prevent outbreaks.
  • Rosacea; A common skin condition that show facial redness with pimples or bumps. It is usually seen on the center of the face, cheeks and around the eyes and forehead. Signs and symptoms of rosacea are: Facial redness, bumps and pimples, eye irritation and skin thickening. The cause of this skin condition is still unknown.
